Scotland U21 boss hails Donovan, Miller and Wilson attitude

Scotland U21 coach Tony Docherty praises the attitude of Donovan, Miller and Wilson after they dropped down from the senior squad for friendlies against Ukraine and USA.

Scotland Under-21s head coach Tony Docherty has expressed his delight at the commitment shown by three players who have stepped down from Sebastian Pocognoli's senior squad. Celtic right-back Colby Donovan, Udinese midfielder Lennon Miller and Heart of Midlothian striker James Wilson have all joined the U21 group for friendlies against Ukraine and the United States in Spain this month.

Docherty highlighted how these players, who have senior squad experience, become leaders within the U21 setup. He explained that the move benefits players not getting regular minutes at senior level, pointing to the example of Barney Stewart, who scored three goals for the U21s before breaking into West Brom's first team. Docherty emphasised the importance of player buy-in, noting that Donovan specifically wanted the opportunity to play and impress rather than being forced into the U21 squad.

Meanwhile, St Mirren striker Eseosa Sule has been called up as Docherty prepares for a new European qualifying campaign, with 16 of his original 27-player squad having aged out of the competition.
