What Kane deal means for England and Premier League record

Kane's new Bayern contract through 2029 likely ends his Premier League career and keeps him focused on Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup with England.

Harry Kane has signed a new contract with Bayern Munich extending through 2029, securing his future at the Bundesliga club after winning the Ballon d'Or. The 33-year-old has been a phenomenal success since joining from Spurs for £86m in August 2023, scoring 102 goals in 102 Bundesliga matches and winning two league titles and three successive Golden Boot awards.

The deal, which expires shortly before Kane's 36th birthday, effectively ends any prospect of him returning to the Premier League. He remains 47 goals short of Alan Shearer's Premier League record of 260, a gap now unlikely to be closed. Kane has scored 213 times in 320 league games for Spurs and holds the England record with 91 goals from 125 caps.

The contract signals Kane's commitment to pursuing major tournament success with England, with Euro 2028 in the UK and Ireland firmly in his sights, and potentially the 2030 World Cup. Former England striker Chris Sutton believes Kane's all-round game and football intelligence mean age will not be a significant factor in his continued performance at the highest level.
