Amorim: This time I cannot defend the squad

Amorim criticised Milan's attitude and ambition after a 2-0 home defeat to Ferencvaros in Europa League, saying there was no excuse for the performance.

Ruben Amorim offered no excuses after AC Milan's 2-0 home loss to Ferencvaros in Europa League, his third defeat in the competition. The manager was scathing about the team's approach: "There is no explanation. It's not about technical aspects, but ambition and attitude." He highlighted poor second-ball play and careless possession as key failings, particularly in the first half.

Amorim acknowledged his own responsibility, saying he had failed to prepare the squad mentally despite warning them after their derby victory not to carry that confidence into the match. He cited Pavlovic as an example of the mentality he wanted from all players, noting the team must be ready to compete on two fronts and play every three days. "Sometimes I have many arguments to defend the squad. Tonight, no," he said. The manager's blunt assessment echoed similar criticism from his predecessor Paulo Fonseca, whose frustrated outburst after a Champions League win in December preceded his sacking weeks later.
