Jesús Owono devastated by guilt: considering leaving football

FC Andorra goalkeeper Owono is struggling with guilt and trauma following a fatal on-pitch incident, receiving psychological support from the club.

Jesús Owono, goalkeeper for FC Andorra, is experiencing severe emotional distress following the death of Jesús Miguel during a match. According to Ana Maye, a close confidant of Owono since his teenage years and coordinator general of the Equatorial Guinea national team, the goalkeeper has even considered abandoning football altogether.

Owono is receiving psychological support from FC Andorra, including sessions with mental health professionals and exposure to videos of other athletes who have overcome similar traumatic experiences. However, the process is proving difficult. Maye explained that despite professional help, Owono remains deeply affected, particularly concerned about Miguel's young child and widow.

The tragedy has extended beyond Owono himself. His younger brother, who plays football in the Basque Country, is reportedly being insulted and accused by people in his sporting environment. His sister, a university student in Valencia, is also suffering. Maye called for privacy and respect for the family, emphasizing that Owono needs time, support and peace to process what happened and eventually return to football.
