Over €100,000 raised for family of Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel

Over €100,000 raised in three days for the family of Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel, who died from cardiac arrest after a collision during a match on Tuesday.

Jesus de Miguel, a 30-year-old Tenerife striker, died on Tuesday after suffering a cardiac arrest following a violent collision with FC Andorre goalkeeper Jesus Owono during a Segunda División match. A fundraising campaign launched by Hércules player Fran Sol Ortiz to support his family has already raised over €100,000 in three days, including a €15,000 donation from Cádiz president Karl Christian Septien. The funds will go to his son, wife and parents.

De Miguel was buried on Thursday in Navahermosa, his family's village, attended by around 400 people including Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez and Spain coach Luis de la Fuente. Tenerife and FC Andorre's Segunda División matches scheduled for the weekend were postponed as a mark of respect. The Spanish Football Federation cancelled all Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina fixtures for the week, and a minute's silence was observed across European pitches. Tenerife has declared six days of mourning and will pay tribute to De Miguel at their stadium on Saturday.
