Tenerife doctor Faustino Afonso calls for caution and rigour in investigating the incident involving Jesús De Miguel on Monday.

Faustino Afonso, a member of Tenerife's medical staff, has issued a statement calling for a thorough and responsible investigation into what happened to Jesús De Miguel on Monday, urging against speculation and hasty judgements.

Afonso, who was not present at the stadium when the incident occurred and did not provide medical assistance, emphasised the importance of clarity while maintaining "maximum prudence and respect" towards the investigation process. He also stressed that "a 30-year-old man cannot die playing football" and said the family's pain is now what truly matters.

The doctor's statement comes as a court-ordered investigation seeks to determine whether there was any medical malpractice in the initial treatment of the player on the pitch and whether the professional football league's health protocols are adequate.
