Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso reacts to Cole Palmer latest England squad snub: 'We have not spoken'

Alonso said he hasn't discussed Palmer's England omission with the midfielder, who was left out of Tuchel's squad for Nations League games against Croatia and Spain.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso confirmed he has not spoken to Cole Palmer about the attacking midfielder's latest omission from the England squad. Palmer was overlooked by manager Thomas Tuchel for the Three Lions' upcoming Nations League fixtures against Croatia and Spain, despite undergoing medical checks after a minor injury during the autumn international break.

This marks Palmer's continued absence from the England setup, having also been excluded from Tuchel's World Cup squad in the summer. Tuchel reiterated his position that Palmer "misses too many opportunities to impress" for his country, noting that the two-and-a-half week absence due to injury was significant. The, former England boss added that "the door is always open" but stressed nothing has changed in his assessment.

Alonso expressed satisfaction with Palmer's form at Chelsea, saying the midfielder "is connecting very well with the other attackers and is helping the team." The manager also clarified he would never advise players to miss international duty, stating that when a player is fully fit they are selectable, and the club provides reasonable information to national teams to decide together.
