Copete makes long-awaited return for Valencia against Real Madrid

Copete returns to Valencia's squad after eight months out with a knee injury requiring two surgeries; Sato omitted for technical reasons ahead of Real Madrid visit.

José Copete has been recalled to Valencia's squad for tonight's La Liga clash with Real Madrid at Mestalla (21:00), marking his return after eight months sidelined by a meniscal injury to his left knee that required two operations. The centre-back last played on 22 February against Villarreal and has completed his rehabilitation programme, training with the group at Valencia's training ground in recent weeks.

Manager Javier Aguirre has also recalled goalkeeper Kayne Van Oevelen following a right knee sprain suffered a week ago, and Harvey Elliott returns after serving a suspension. However, Ryunosuke Sato has been left out on technical grounds after Aguirre publicly called for greater intensity and aggression in training, while Dimitri Foulquier misses out through injury.
