Eternal Jesús De Miguel

Over 10,000 fans gathered at Heliodoro stadium to pay tribute to Jesús De Miguel, the Tenerife forward who died following a collision with a goalkeeper on November 2.

The Heliodoro stadium fell silent as more than 10,000 supporters of Tenerife gathered to honour Jesús De Miguel, the club's striker who tragically died five days earlier following a collision with goalkeeper Owono during a match. Fans began queuing hours before the ceremony, with supporters from rival clubs including Las Palmas setting aside sporting rivalries to attend.

The squad, who had accompanied De Miguel's remains at a service in Navahermosa the previous Thursday, arrived to heartfelt applause. Club captain Enric Gallego spoke first, struggling with emotion as he said: "It's tremendously unfair that we'll never see you enter the dressing room again, hear your voice or find you in those everyday moments." President Felipe Miñambres recalled De Miguel's quiet character and generosity, while Rayco García pledged that De Miguel's daughter would want for nothing.

Bishop Eloy Santiago of the Canary Islands diocese provided the spiritual element, reflecting on how death disrupts not only the future but also our understanding of the world. The ceremony concluded with Ave María sung by Chago Melián. Tributes extended across Spanish football: Miguelete of Logroñés dedicated his goal to De Miguel, while Unionistas, where he had played for 18 months, paused their match in the 22nd minute in honour of his shirt number.
