Tenerife bid tearful farewell to Jesus de Miguel after striker died following on-pitch collision

Tenerife held a 90-minute tribute at their stadium to honour striker Jesus de Miguel, 30, who died from cardiac arrest after colliding with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono on Monday.

Thousands gathered at Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez on Saturday to pay their final respects to Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel, who died aged 30 following a cardiac arrest sustained after an on-pitch collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono on Monday. De Miguel was taken to intensive care immediately after the collision and passed away on Tuesday morning.

Tenerife captain Enric Gallego delivered an emotional tribute, fighting back tears as he remembered his teammate. "To speak of you in the past tense is tremendously unfair," Gallego said during the 90-minute ceremony. "It's still hard to believe that this has happened to us, Demi; you'll always be one of us." A massive banner displaying De Miguel's photograph with the words "Forever Demi" hung behind the central pitch stage, and fans chanted his name throughout the service.

Players from across Spain's top two divisions attended the tribute, alongside representatives from major clubs including Real Madrid. Matches across all Spanish divisions observed a minute's silence in De Miguel's honour over the weekend. On Wednesday, Owono released a statement expressing his grief, saying he was struggling to process the tragedy and felt "enormous pain at the loss of Jesus."
