Tottenham clause may prove key after Will Lankshear masterclass

Lankshear has scored 13 goals in 15 games for Middlesbrough since leaving Tottenham in summer; Spurs retained a matching rights clause and profit percentage.

Will Lankshear has impressed at Middlesbrough after joining from Tottenham in a deal worth up to £20m with add-ons. The 21-year-old has already netted 13 goals in 15 games across all competitions, suggesting Tottenham's decision to sell may prove costly. However, Spurs inserted a matching rights clause and will receive a percentage of any future profit, giving them a safety net if Lankshear's value continues to rise.
