Newcastle awakens after break to beat Crystal Palace 2-0

Newcastle scored twice after the break to beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park, with Osula and Barnes finding the net in the 47th and 58th minutes.

Crystal Palace and Newcastle United played out a cagey first half at Selhurst Park with few clear chances, the score level at the break despite Palace having the better attacking intent early on.

Newcastle emerged with renewed intensity after the interval and broke the deadlock in the 47th minute when Murphy's cross found Osula, who struck first time past Walter Benítez. Five minutes later Barnes doubled the lead following a Palace turnover, receiving a pass from Dedić on the right flank before shooting freely into the net.

Palace improved after falling two goals behind and created chances to get back into the game, with Osorio forcing a good save from Newcastle keeper Horníček in the 71st minute, but they lacked the precision to convert their pressure into goals. Newcastle held firm to secure the three points.
