Manchester United 'make Michael Carrick sack decision' after Bournemouth loss

Carrick's position at United is precarious after a 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth extended their winless run to eight matches, with reports suggesting he could be sacked in the coming days.

Michael Carrick remains under intense pressure at Manchester United following a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday, which stretched their winless run to eight matches. United have won just one of their opening eight league games this season, accumulating seven points and sitting 16th in the Premier League.

Carrick's situation deteriorated after a 4-0 Champions League loss away at Como on Wednesday. Sky Sports reports his tenure is now "hanging by a thread," with expectations he could be dismissed in the coming days. United face Chelsea away on Saturday, and Carrick was unable to confirm whether he would be in the dugout.

The atmosphere at Old Trafford has grown toxic, with players including Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes publicly questioning the club's direction. Fernandes was dropped as a result. Despite a passionate pre-match speech on Friday, Carrick acknowledged the difficult position and accepted responsibility post-match, saying "I totally understand the situation." Reports suggest Eddie Howe and Antonio Conte are being lined up as potential replacements.
