United's cycle of hope followed by failure claims another patsy in Carrick

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick faces the sack after a heavy defeat to Bournemouth, with fans directing anger at the board and players rather than the manager.

Michael Carrick's time as Manchester United manager appears to be ending after the club's latest heavy defeat, this time to Bournemouth. The manager was applauded by supporters as he left the pitch, a sign of respect that contrasts sharply with the anger directed at others. Fans vented their frustration at multiple targets: Bruno Fernandes, the captain and last season's player of the year, who appeared disengaged throughout the match and later liked a social media post about loyalty; the Glazer family ownership; Jim Ratcliffe and his plans for a new stadium that fans mocked; and backroom staff including Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada. The article reflects on United's recurring cycle of managerial appointments and failures, suggesting that whoever replaces Carrick—whether Eddie Howe, Antonio Conte, Julian Nagelsmann or others—will face the same structural problems that have doomed previous managers.
