Atlético finally has the missing piece: Julián Álvarez

Julián Álvarez scored in Atlético's win over Deportivo, ending an eight-month La Liga goal drought at the Metropolitano and apologizing to fans for his summer transfer saga.

Atlético Madrid secured their sixth consecutive La Liga victory with a win over Deportivo on Saturday, moving to within two points of the league leaders. The standout moment came from Julián Álvarez, who scored the decisive goal and was named man of the match.

Álvarez's goal marked a significant moment for the Argentine forward, who had not scored at the Metropolitano in La Liga since 28 February. He had also struggled early in the season after a turbulent summer in which he publicly expressed a desire to leave for Barcelona, citing a personal dream. Barcelona made a single offer of €100 million, but Atlético refused to negotiate, and the move collapsed.

After the match, Álvarez addressed the situation in an interview with Movistar, apologizing to the Atlético fans for his words and behavior during the transfer window. "I wanted to apologize to our people for my words during the World Cup. They were a mistake on my part, both in form and timing," he said, adding that he understood the fans' frustration and was grateful for their support. He committed to focusing on improving his performance and helping the team achieve their objectives.
