'Distasteful' to revel in Michael Carrick's downfall – he may never manage again after chastening Man United tenure

Carrick expected to be sacked after Man United's poor run; 16th in the league following defeats to Como and Bournemouth.

Michael Carrick is expected to be dismissed as Manchester United manager after a difficult spell in charge. The Red Devils sit 16th in the Premier League following a 4-1 Champions League loss to Como midweek and a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth. Carrick appeared emotional after the Bournemouth match as he completed a lap of honour, with supporters applauding their former player while booing the current squad and criticising the transfer window.

Carrick was appointed interim manager after Ruben Amorim's departure and initially impressed, winning 12 of his first 17 games including victories over Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, which earned him a two-year permanent deal. However, with only three first-team signings arriving in the summer and the defence not significantly strengthened, performances have deteriorated markedly.

After the Bournemouth loss, Carrick apologised and vowed to fight on, accepting responsibility for the situation. talkSPORT's Alex Crook expressed sympathy for the manager, calling it "distasteful" that people are revelling in his downfall and suggesting Carrick may never manage again after this experience. Crook also noted that even if Carrick is sacked, finding a replacement quickly will be difficult given the structural issues at the club under the Glazers and INEOS.
