How Mourinho shut down Flick's imperfect Barcelona

Mourinho's Real Madrid neutralized Barcelona's midfield dominance with aggressive man-marking, ending Barça's 18-game unbeaten run at Camp Nou with a 2-1 victory.

Barcelona's 18-game unbeaten streak at Camp Nou came to an end on Sunday as Real Madrid secured a 2-1 victory under Mourinho's tactical setup. The Madrid manager deployed aggressive man-marking in the wide areas, where Pedri and Rodri struggled to connect and were overwhelmed by the density of Madrid players. With Fermín pushed forward and Cancelo dropping deep, Madrid dominated the midfield through sheer numbers, with Tchouámeni, Bellingham, Güler, Silva, Valverde and Diomandé creating a congested center.

Bellingham's performance was particularly notable, outplaying Rodri, who appeared unable to think freely. Barcelona's wide players and full-backs opened up dangerous spaces in their own defense, and on the left flank, Gordon and Cancelo operated on the same line without proper coordination. Flick's side, predictable in their approach and lacking a tactical Plan B, failed to adjust to Madrid's setup, hampered by mental slowness and being outrun by their opponents.
