Sources: Ross Wilson fights for his job at Newcastle United

Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson is under pressure from the club hierarchy over summer signings, with several recruits struggling for minutes under manager Matthias Jaissle.

Ross Wilson is fighting to keep his job as Newcastle United sporting director after coming under scrutiny from the club hierarchy over his summer transfer decisions. The pressure has intensified two months into the season, with the Magpies currently eighth in the Premier League with 11 points from eight games.

The issue centres on Wilson's signings, many of whom are struggling for playing time under manager Matthias Jaissle. While Lukas Hornicek, Amar Dedic, Nico Gonzalez and Matias Fernandez-Pardo have featured regularly, others including Aladji Bamba, Sean Steur and Bazoumana Toure have seen limited action. The club hierarchy are unimpressed with how the recruitment has panned out.

Newcastle's inconsistent results have also put early pressure on Jaissle, though the owners are believed ready to back the manager. The January transfer window could prove pivotal for Wilson's future, with the club needing to sell players and bring in reinforcements. Newcastle are accelerating plans to sign Brighton's Yasin Ayari and have interest in Roma's Wesley, though a deal for the full-back is considered unlikely.
