Gattuso's diary: Lazio's remarkable start to the season

Gattuso's Lazio sit top of Serie A after nine unbeaten games, combining defensive solidity with attacking fluidity across twelve different goalscorers.

Rino Gattuso has built a Lazio side that defies conventional tactical categories. With 25 points from nine games, five consecutive away wins, and 22 goals scored, the team operates like a Rubik's cube—constantly shifting its attacking threat and defensive shape to confound opponents.

The statistics reveal a squad that distributes attacking responsibility across twelve different scorers, averaging 118 kilometres per match with 65 tackles won. Gattuso's 4-3-3 doesn't wait for opponents to make mistakes; it provokes them. Against Milan in their only draw, Lazio controlled the game for 60 minutes before conceding twice to Moreira.

The side combines Premier League pace with a multi-role player concept, blending elegant football with a working-class mentality. Unbeaten after nine games—a run not seen since 1999-2000—Lazio's first-place position is built on realistic ambition rather than comparison to past glories. Gattuso has set a target of 40 points, with the squad having cost just €16 million in summer transfers.
