Jamie Carragher says what Michael Carrick will 'never say publicly' after Man United decision

Carragher believes Carrick wants out but will never admit it publicly, with Chelsea's visit potentially decisive for his future.

Jamie Carragher has suggested that Michael Carrick would prefer to leave Manchester United despite never saying so publicly. With United sitting 16th in the Premier League after winning just one of their opening eight matches, Carrick's position has come under scrutiny. Speaking on the Overlap, Carragher said: "I think he can never say publicly, but I think Michael Carrick would want to be put out of his misery." He added that Carrick knows the players have lost faith and that his departure is imminent.

Saturday's match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge is being viewed as potentially decisive for Carrick's tenure. Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to attend the fixture in person, adding further pressure. Sources suggest Ratcliffe may also scrutinise the positions of technical director Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada. Nicky Butt has criticised the decision-making structure at the club, arguing that key figures lack either experience or proven excellence at the highest level.
