Michael Carrick reacts to keeping his job at Manchester United - 'I'm not surprised'

Carrick says he doesn't need assurances after United's board decided to keep him on despite the 3-0 Bournemouth loss.

Michael Carrick has confirmed he will remain Manchester United manager after the club's board decided to give him more time following last weekend's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth. The loss left United eight games without a win and sitting just a point above the relegation zone.

Carrick addressed the media ahead of this weekend's Chelsea clash, saying he does not require assurances from the board about his position. "I don't need any assurances from anyone; I get the position and understand the responsibility and what comes with that," he said. When asked if he was surprised to still be in the job, Carrick replied: "No, no, I'm here to do my job and I'm desperate to improve things."

The United manager acknowledged the disappointment of the Bournemouth result but stressed his focus is on preparing for Chelsea. He has won just twice in 12 games this season, with United currently vulnerable to dropping into the bottom three this weekend.
