Inter and Milan unveiled plans for a 71,500-seat Generali Stadium to replace San Siro from 2031-32, with construction starting in 2028 at a cost of €1.2 billion.

Internazionale and Milan have officially unveiled their plans for a new shared stadium, the Generali Stadium, which will replace the iconic San Siro (Giuseppe Meazza Stadium) from the 2031-32 season onwards.

The new stadium will have a capacity of 71,500 seats and is expected to cost €1.2 billion. Designed by architect Norman Foster in collaboration with stadium specialist David Manica, the venue features a distinctive low-body design that rises at either end, bringing fans as close to the pitch as possible. The stadium will also host NFL games, rugby matches and concerts. Construction is set to begin in 2028 on the existing San Siro site, with the current ground largely demolished once work nears completion.

The announcement at Milan's Castello Sforzesco on Thursday drew protests from some Inter fans, who unfurled banners reading "you will never extinguish the lights at San Siro." The new stadium could potentially be used as a venue for Euro 2032, which Italy and Turkey will jointly host.
