Jack Grealish's absence reveals an alarming reality for Everton star

Grealish dropped for breaching discipline after missing training; Everton beat Newcastle 3-1 in Carabao Cup without him as Moyes enforces standards.

Jack Grealish was omitted from Everton's squad for the Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle after missing a training session, a breach of club discipline. The Toffees progressed to the quarter-finals with a 3-1 victory, with goals from James Garner, Hayden Hackney and Thierno Barry, showing they could function effectively without their high-profile signing.

Manager David Moyes backed the decision, saying "It is a club decision and I support it," though he declined to elaborate on details. The absence highlighted Grealish's struggles since joining on loan: he has managed only three league starts in nine months and eight goals in all competitions over three-and-a-half years at Manchester City and Everton combined.

Grealish's career appears at a crossroads. Once a Pep Guardiola favourite, he has underperformed since City's 2023 Champions League triumph, with injury issues and limited impact on the pitch. With no contract beyond this season, an extended Everton stay seems his best option, but discipline and consistency will be crucial to his revival.
