Ansotegi: "We want to be the Real Sociedad B you've seen until now"

Real Sociedad B manager Ansotegi says the team must rediscover its defensive identity after six consecutive losses ahead of Saturday's home match against Girona.

Real Sociedad B face Girona on Saturday in LaLiga Hypermotion's 12th round, seeking to end a run of six consecutive defeats. Manager Jon Ansotegi acknowledged the results have been worse than the performances, but stressed the need to recover their competitive edge, particularly at home in Zubieta where the team has yet to win this season.

Ansotegi emphasised that while the team continues to create chances and play attractive football, they have lost focus on defensive fundamentals. "We want to win, but above all we want to compete," he said. "We want to start again caring about details, so that rival coaches say Real Sociedad B is a strong team, a tough team, difficult to beat." He pointed to recent matches where the team's attacking approach left them vulnerable to counterattacks and easy chances for opponents.

The manager insisted the solution lies not in changing their style but in balancing their possession-based play with improved defensive discipline and intensity in one-on-one situations. "When we've been a tough, difficult team to beat, the results have been better," Ansotegi said. He remains confident that returning to their earlier form will give them a chance against Girona, despite acknowledging the Catalan side's quality.
