Ballon d'Or votes revealed as Harry Kane beats Kylian Mbappe by one of smallest ever margins

Kane won by 28 points over Mbappe, the fourth-closest margin in the award's 70-year history.

Harry Kane was crowned the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner on Monday night at the London Palladium, becoming the first Englishman to win the award in 25 years. The Bayern Munich striker secured 1,055 points with 40 first-place votes, edging Kylian Mbappe by just 28 points—the runner-up received 1,027 points from 23 first-place nominations.

The margin was the fourth-closest in the award's 70-year history and the tightest race for first place since Lionel Messi beat Virgil van Dijk by seven points in 2019. Lamine Yamal finished third, with Rodri and Messi trailing by over 100 points each.

Kane delivered a measured acceptance speech, thanking France Football and those who voted for him. When asked about a potential knighthood, the England captain said he wouldn't rule it out but joked he'd feel "weird" being called Sir.
