Wolves man labelled 'one-season wonder' – Not worth paying set fee for

Ajax have a €20m option to sign Wolves loanee Arokodare permanently, but Dutch pundit Driessen warns against paying it, calling him a 'one-season wonder' after strong form at Genk didn't translate to the Premier League.

Tolu Arokodare joined Ajax on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers in July after impressing at KRC Genk with 23 goals and seven assists in 2024/25. However, his form dipped sharply at Wolves, managing only six goals and two assists in 38 Championship matches as the club was relegated from the Premier League.

Ajax secured a €20m purchase option as part of the loan deal. Arokodare has since rediscovered his form in Amsterdam, scoring nine goals and three assists in 14 matches, prompting the Dutch club to consider making his stay permanent. According to reports, Ajax have begun negotiations with Wolves over exercising the option.

However, De Telegraaf's Valentijn Driessen has urged Ajax against the move, labelling Arokodare a "one-season wonder" and arguing that €20m is too high a price for a player who cannot be relied upon to score 15–20 goals per season. Algemeen Dagblad journalist Johan Inan added that the fee would be difficult for Ajax to justify, especially if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. Arokodare's contract at Wolves runs until 2029; if Ajax do not buy him, he is unlikely to have a future at Molineux and would likely move again next summer.
