Manchester United 'reach agreement' over Michael Carrick sack decision

Manchester United chiefs have agreed to keep Carrick in charge for the next two matches against Roma and Aston Villa before reassessing during the November break.

Michael Carrick's position as Manchester United head coach remains under threat following a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, which extended the club's winless run to nine matches. Morgan Rogers opened the scoring before Lisandro Martinez was sent off, allowing Cole Palmer to convert the resulting penalty.

With United sitting just above the Premier League relegation zone, the club's hierarchy held fresh crisis talks at Carrington. Chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, both present at Stamford Bridge, discussed potential replacements including Aston Villa boss Unai Emery, former Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, Julian Nagelsmann, and Antonio Conte.

However, according to The Athletic, United's chiefs have agreed to keep Carrick in post for the next two fixtures: Roma in the Champions League and Aston Villa in the Premier League. The situation will be reassessed during the November international break. Carrick insisted after the Chelsea loss that his focus was on preparing for the next match and winning games.
