José Alberto: "If 100 people see Mbappé's penalty, 98 say it's not"

Racing manager José Alberto criticised the VAR decision not to review the penalty awarded to Mbappé in Real Madrid's 3-0 win, saying 98 of 100 people would agree it wasn't a foul.

Racing Santander lost 3-0 to Real Madrid, with manager José Alberto López expressing frustration at the VAR's handling of a controversial penalty awarded to Kylian Mbappé in the opening minutes. Alberto acknowledged that referee Munuera Montero correctly overturned a penalty for Tchouameni after VAR review, but questioned why the Mbappé incident was not reviewed at all. "If 100 people see that penalty, 98 will say it's not a penalty," Alberto said, emphasising there was only contact, not a foul. He criticised the VAR system for failing to intervene on clear errors, calling it a "double injustice" when the technology meant to improve fairness instead compounds mistakes. Alberto also reported that defender Mantilla suffered an injury during the match that looked serious.
