No reason why Blades can't be in the play-off mix

Sheffield United sit 10th in the Championship, three points off the play-offs after beating Wrexham 1-0, with manager Chris Wilder's side showing solid form despite summer departures.

Sheffield United's 1-0 victory over Wrexham on Friday showcased a team capable of challenging for the play-offs, according to BBC Radio Sheffield's Rob Staton. United currently sit 10th in the Championship table, just three points adrift of the top six after 13 games.

Despite a turbulent summer marked by ownership disputes and the departures of key creative players Gus Hamer, Andre Brooks and Callum O'Hare, the Blades have remained competitive. Staton highlighted the team's defensive solidity—only Swansea have more clean sheets—and praised new signing Liam Kitching and goalkeeper Michael Cooper's return to form. He also noted that United have been undone by individual moments rather than poor overall play, citing the Portsmouth red card, Stoke's long-range strikes, and Wolves' last-gasp winner.

With a trip to struggling Preston North End next on Tuesday, Staton believes there is no reason why Wilder's side cannot be in the play-off mix if they continue to perform with purpose and professionalism.
