Yangel Herrera: "Our confidence is intact, we believe in ourselves"

Herrera says Athletic's confidence remains intact ahead of Europa League clash with Lyon despite recent defeat at home.

Yangel Herrera spoke to media ahead of Athletic Bilbao's Europa League match against Olympique de Lyon. The Venezuelan midfielder, who has not featured in recent domestic action but started Athletic's first two European games, expressed confidence in his team's chances despite their loss at San Mamés.

"The team played well. Our confidence is intact. We believe in ourselves," Herrera said. "We expect to return to that winning dynamic." He acknowledged the challenge posed by Lyon, describing them as a high-level opponent with dangerous attacking mechanisms, but insisted Athletic would look to impose themselves at home.

Herrera also noted that a victory would be crucial for Athletic's push to finish in the top eight of the Europa League standings. He downplayed the significance of Lyon's recent managerial change, saying the focus must remain on Athletic's own performance. When asked about the controversial penalty decision involving Nico Williams in the previous match, Herrera defended his compatriot, stating the penalty should not have been awarded.
