Frank McAvennie apologises to Celtic star Auston Trusty in fresh statement after fans point out one thing

McAvennie apologises to Trusty after criticism over the defender's absence following his father's death.

Frank McAvennie has issued a second apology to Celtic defender Auston Trusty after facing backlash for comments made on his podcast about the American's time away from the club.

Trusty returned to the United States following the death of his father, with manager Martin O'Neill confirming the defender was away to celebrate his dad's life ahead of Celtic's 2-0 Premiership defeat to Falkirk. McAvennie initially criticised the length of Trusty's absence, questioning how long he would be away given Celtic's need for him and his status as a paid player.

After an online backlash, McAvennie released an initial statement acknowledging his comments were insensitive, but supporters felt it lacked a direct apology to Trusty himself. In a second statement, the former Celtic striker apologised directly, saying he was "genuinely sorry for any hurt" caused to Trusty and his family.
