Enzo Maresca addresses Gianluigi Donnarumma form after latest Man City blunder

Maresca backed Donnarumma after the goalkeeper's error in City's 3-2 Champions League win at Leipzig, saying the mistake will not prompt a review during the international break.

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has defended Gianluigi Donnarumma following the goalkeeper's error in Wednesday's 3-2 Champions League victory at RB Leipzig. Donnarumma was at fault for one of the goals conceded when a shot beat him at his near post, and he had several other uncomfortable moments during the match, though he also made a fine save.

Maresca told reporters he has full confidence in the 27-year-old and is not concerned about his form. "It's not a concern, but it's a mistake," Maresca said. "A few minutes before the mistake he has made a save that any keeper in the world is not going to do. So it's always a balance." The manager ruled out reviewing the goalkeeper situation during the upcoming international break, emphasizing that Donnarumma will improve.

City led twice through a Castello Lukeba own goal and Enzo Fernandez header but were pegged back by Ridle Baku and Antonio Nusa before Erling Haaland's 78th-minute winner settled the contest. Maresca acknowledged his side needs to stop conceding "silly goals" but expressed confidence the team will improve after four months together.
