Raphinha and his bond with Deco: "From ex-agent and 'father' to friend"

Raphinha extended his Barcelona contract and praised Deco, the club's sporting director, calling him agent, friend and father figure since they met seven years ago.

Raphinha spoke about his relationship with Barcelona sporting director Deco during a contract extension ceremony. The Brazilian forward, 29, described Deco as having been his agent for seven years before becoming a close friend and mentor. "When I arrived, Deco was my agent. We've had 10 years of friendship now. I've had Deco as a father. He did many things for me. Before even myself, he believed I could reach a club like this," Raphinha explained.

Raphinha clarified that he no longer has an agent and manages his affairs with his wife, but maintains a strong bond with Deco. "The relationship I have with Deco is spectacular. I wouldn't say I lost anything by not having him as an agent because he's very close to everyone," he added. The forward's connection to Barcelona runs deep—manager Hansi Flick considered making him captain, and academy players often praise Deco's paternal approach to helping them integrate into the first team.
