Not playing at Man City 'horrendous' - Trafford

Trafford reflects on his difficult season at City after Donnarumma's arrival, saying the lack of playing time was "horrendous" before his £45m summer move to Leeds.

James Trafford has opened up about his frustrating final season at Manchester City, describing the experience of being sidelined as "horrendous" after Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma arrived from Paris St-Germain in summer 2025.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper, who had rejoined City's academy in July 2025, started the first three Premier League matches but made just one further league appearance in the 35 games following Donnarumma's arrival. Despite the limited playing time, Trafford won the League Cup and FA Cup, starting both finals at Wembley. He also represented England at the 2026 World Cup, though he did not feature in matches.

After leaving City, Trafford joined Leeds United in a deal worth up to £45m—a record transfer fee for a British goalkeeper. He has since thrived at Elland Road, starting all nine of Leeds' Premier League matches this season and keeping three clean sheets. Leeds currently sit 12th in the table, just two points off the European places, and Trafford believes the club will continue to improve.
