D'Amico: "We know what player we're missing. The Manchester penalty..."

Roma sporting director D'Amico says the club needs a winger and will explore January options; he also defended the team's Champions League display at Manchester United, questioning the generosity of a penalty.

Roma sporting director Tony D'Amico spoke ahead of the Serie A match against Sassuolo, addressing the club's transfer plans and recent performances. He confirmed that Roma identified a need for a winger with pace and recovery ability after the summer window closed, and said the club will evaluate opportunities in the January transfer market to provide manager Gasperini with that alternative.

D'Amico also discussed Roma's Champions League campaign, praising the team's display in the 2-3 defeat at Manchester United despite the comeback loss. He noted that the stadium atmosphere in Manchester was intense but highlighted that Roma imposed its style of play. While acknowledging difficult moments, D'Amico suggested the penalty that aided United's comeback was generous. He framed the European matches as valuable learning experiences for the squad after Roma's seven-year absence from the Champions League.

On squad fitness, D'Amico added that Roma is closing a demanding cycle of nine matches in 28 days and hopes to finish it well with three or four injured players potentially returning soon. He confirmed Koné's recovery and availability.
