AS Roma believe in first league title in 25 years

Roma sit second in Serie A with 27 points from 10 games, unbeaten in the league this season, as Gasperini backs their title chances for the first time since 2001.

AS Roma are mounting a serious Serie A title challenge this season. Currently second with 27 points from 10 matches, they remain unbeaten in the league after beating Sassuolo, trailing only Lazio (28 points) at the top.

Manager Gian Piero Gasperini is bullish about Roma's prospects despite a midweek Champions League loss to Manchester United. "We've had a wonderful run of matches and only lost to Real Madrid and Manchester United," he said. "Those defeats came hard because they happened in the closing stages while we were ahead, but they came from strong performances against top-level opponents."

In Serie A, Roma have been impressive. "It's clear we've grown enormously in attack," Gasperini added. "We're scoring plenty of goals in different ways and through different players." Roma last won the Serie A title in 2001, with their previous titles coming in 1942 and 1983. While Gasperini believes Inter have the best credentials to win, he is confident Roma can challenge if their rivals slip up.
