Man United dressing room's response to Michael Carrick not being sacked

Carrick has lost dressing room support at Manchester United but retains his job for now; his next fixture is Chelsea on Saturday.

Michael Carrick remains Manchester United manager despite losing the backing of his players, according to scout Bryan King speaking to Football Insider. The 45-year-old was given unexpected time to turn things around following Sunday's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, which extended United's winless run to eight games across all competitions.

King told Football Insider that Carrick's position is precarious: "The biggest problem this season has been that he's obviously lost the dressing room. And there will be plenty in there not happy that he is still the manager." The scout suggested Carrick must have convinced decision-makers of his ability to recover, though financial constraints at Old Trafford may have also influenced the decision to keep him.

Carrick faces a demanding fixture list starting with Chelsea on Saturday, followed by Roma, Aston Villa and Liverpool. King suggested that if Carrick remains in charge after that run, "he has performed a miracle." Managers including Eddie Howe, Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte have been linked with the role should Carrick be sacked.
