How Manchester United dressing room reacted to Michael Carrick sack decision

Carrick retains dressing room support after surviving the sack following defeats to Bournemouth and Como; he faces Chelsea this weekend.

Michael Carrick has been given more time as Manchester United manager despite intense pressure following a 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth on Sunday, which came days after a 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como. The club's hierarchy decided against sacking him, and he will take charge for this weekend's trip to Chelsea.

Carrick appears to retain backing from his players. An unnamed Manchester United player told BBC Sport: "The feeling is that we all want to put it right. Players, staff, everyone." At full-time against Bournemouth, fans directed their boos at the players rather than the manager.

On Wednesday, Carrick held clear-the-air talks with captain Bruno Fernandes, who had been omitted from the Bournemouth game after criticising tactics following the Como loss. Fernandes is now set to return. Manchester United sit 16th in the Premier League table after their worst-ever start to a season. Sir Jim Ratcliffe will attend Saturday's match at Stamford Bridge.
