Man United chief is pushing for Julian Nagelsmann appointment, this is why

Nagelsmann is a leading candidate to replace Carrick, with Man United's recruitment director Vivell pushing for his appointment after their time together at RB Leipzig.

Julian Nagelsmann has emerged as a leading managerial candidate at Manchester United, according to sources. The former Bayern Munich and Germany manager has long been on Old Trafford's radar, having been considered after Ruben Amorim's departure in January.

Man United's director of recruitment Christopher Vivell is actively backing Nagelsmann's case, having worked with him at RB Leipzig. The pair enjoy a strong relationship, and Vivell is a vocal advocate for the 39-year-old's credentials. Former club scout Mick Brown revealed that moves have already been made to sound out Nagelsmann's willingness to take the job, and the manager is believed to be keen on the role and would like to reunite with Vivell.

Michael Carrick remains in position with the board's backing for now following a crisis meeting after the 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, but he is considered at risk. Eddie Howe has also emerged as a leading candidate and is reportedly the favourite of sporting director Jason Wilcox, though the former Newcastle manager is currently taking a break from football.
