Another full-back not ruled out

Barcelona exploring defensive reinforcements beyond a centre-back, with Pedro Porro identified as a dream target but a summer move more realistic given Tottenham's recent contract extension.

Barcelona is considering adding a full-back to their January transfer plans alongside a centre-back, their primary focus this winter. The club has been depleted at centre-back by injuries to Eric, Christensen and Koundé, leaving only Cubarsí and Gerard Martín as natural options — forcing manager Flick to deploy Frenkie de Jong in defence for tonight's match against Alavés.

While summer signings Gordon, Adeyemi and Gabriel Jesus have performed well in attack and Rodri has established himself in midfield, Barcelona recognises a defensive deficit remains. Recent defeats to PSG and Real Madrid have underlined the need to strengthen the back line if the club is to compete for La Liga and the Champions League.

Spanish international Pedro Porro of Tottenham is Barcelona's ideal full-back target, but a January move appears unlikely given he only renewed his Spurs contract until 2031 last summer. A summer transfer is more feasible, when Barcelona can generate funds through player sales. The club will pursue a full-back signing only if a compelling market opportunity emerges and resources allow.
