Harry Kane's transfer from Tottenham to Bayern Munich did have Ballon d'Or clause – But not for Spurs

Kane's Bayern contract included a €1m Ballon d'Or bonus clause, but Tottenham failed to negotiate one when selling him in 2023.

Harry Kane won the Ballon d'Or 2026 on October 26th, triggering a special clause in his Bayern Munich contract worth just over €1m. The agreement was struck between Kane and Bayern when he joined from Tottenham in August 2023 for €100m fixed plus €10m in bonuses, making him the most expensive Bundesliga signing ever. However, Tottenham neglected to include their own Ballon d'Or clause in the deal, leaving the club without any bonus payment despite Kane's individual achievement. Kane, who scored 280 goals in 19 years at Spurs before moving to Germany, has since netted 156 goals in 161 matches for Bayern and is now considering where to display his award, suggesting it could go in the Bayern Museum for fans to see.
