'We have to stick together': Kevin Danso's rallying cry to Sunderland fans

Sunderland defender Danso accepts responsibility for early struggles and urges fans to back Le Bris and the squad through their relegation battle.

Kevin Danso has given an exclusive interview to The i Paper in which he accepts accountability for his difficult start at Sunderland and calls for unity among supporters. The on-loan Tottenham defender, who received a red card at Bournemouth that he describes as "needless", says he was trying to be "too cute" and "too pretty" in a dangerous area but has learned from the experience.

Danso, named PFA Community Champion of the Year last season, is determined to deliver better performances and believes the squad has the quality to escape the relegation zone. He has pledged to get involved in community causes on Wearside, including food banks, and describes Sunderland as one of the friendliest places he has visited. His loan deal will become permanent if the club retains their Premier League status this season.

"Accountability is really important to me, so I'm not shying away from anything," Danso told the publication. "Sunderland fans haven't seen the best of me in any way yet. They've probably seen a few glimpses of it over a few games, but it's not quite there yet. It will come, though. It definitely will, I promise that."
