Family, friends and Tenerife players gather for De Miguel's funeral

Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel's funeral took place Thursday in Navahermosa, four days after he died from a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper during a match.

Jesus de Miguel's funeral took place at San Miguel Arcangel church in the village of Navahermosa on Thursday, attended by the Tenerife squad, club staff, majority shareholder Rayco Garcia, Spanish FA president Rafael Louzan, Spain coach Luis de la Fuente, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and Atletico Madrid chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin.

De Miguel died following a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono on Monday during a match. He was taken to intensive care and his death was announced on Tuesday. His family released a statement: "Jesus leaves a void that is impossible to fill, but also cherished memories for all of us who were fortunate enough to share our lives with him."

Owono released his own statement, saying: "These are the most difficult days of my life. I struggle to find the words, and I find it very hard to process what has happened." Spanish police have opened an investigation into De Miguel's death. LaLiga postponed Tenerife's match against Granada and FC Andorra's game with Mallorca this weekend. A minute's silence will be observed before each game that goes ahead, and referees will stop play at the first interruption after the ninth minute in recognition of De Miguel's shirt number.
