Palmer left out of England squad as Jobe and King called up

Tuchel names 25-man squad for Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain; Palmer, Foden and Mainoo omitted; Jobe Bellingham and Josh King earn first senior call-ups.

Thomas Tuchel has named his England squad for the upcoming Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain, with several notable absences and fresh faces.

Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Kobbie Mainoo have all been left out. Palmer was disappointed to miss the World Cup in the summer and withdrew from the last England camp in September and October due to a minor fitness issue. Tuchel said of Palmer: "It's hard to argue against what you're saying. I can only judge him on what he is delivering for the national team and he's just missing too many opportunities." Mainoo also pulled out of the previous squad with an unspecified injury.

The squad includes first senior call-ups for Jobe Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund and Fulham midfielder Josh King, both of whom have represented England at youth level. Ben White and Djed Spence return to the squad. Bukayo Saka, Adam Scott and Marcus Rashford are unavailable through injury.
