Newcastle seeks solution for Steur's playing time: 'They are the same sort of players'

Steur struggles for minutes at Newcastle under new manager Jaissle, who says the club must find ways to give the former Ajax midfielder more playing time amid competition with Nico González.

Sean Steur arrived at Newcastle United from Ajax last summer but has found playing time hard to come by under new manager Matthias Jaissle. The midfielder competes with Nico González for a midfield spot, with both players operating as number 8s alongside defensive midfielder Joelinton and attacking options Joe Willock and Jacob Ramsey.

Jaissle acknowledged Steur's quality after he came off the bench in Newcastle's 1-0 loss to Everton last weekend. "He has so much potential," the manager said. "They are the same sort of players, so we must find a way to get Steur more minutes. But he is making progress."

Newcastle sit 13th in the Premier League after a disappointing start to the season. Steur remains popular with supporters despite his limited game time. The club faces Fulham away on Saturday.
