Carrick: Not impossible Man Utd can achieve Ferguson success again

Carrick says United can match Ferguson's success but must build consistently; acknowledges modern game demands patience differs from Ferguson's era.

Michael Carrick reflected on the 40th anniversary of Sir Alex Ferguson's appointment as Manchester United manager, marking Friday, November 6, 1986. Carrick believes the club can replicate Ferguson's unprecedented success—13 Premier League titles and two Champions League crowns—but stressed it will not happen overnight.

Carrick acknowledged the scale of Ferguson's achievement, noting he inherited a club that had not won the league since 1967 and took nearly seven years to deliver the first title. "Success does take time, and we don't like having to spend time, but it does take a period of time to build," Carrick said. He emphasized that consistency and sustained performances are key, with no shortcuts available.

The comments come after United's 3-2 comeback win over Roma midweek, which offered breathing space following a nine-game winless run. Carrick faces another test Sunday against Aston Villa in the Premier League. He also reflected on Ferguson's influence on him as a player, saying they have grown closer since he retired and developed a friendship beyond their manager-player relationship.
