Man United latest: Avram Glazer makes rare comment as chiefs agree on replacement plan

Glazer claims United's commercial appeal doesn't depend on trophies; club plans permanent manager if Carrick departs.

Co-chairman Avram Glazer has made rare public comments at Deutsche Bank's Sports Investment Conference, arguing that Manchester United's commercial strength is not reliant on winning silverware. Drawing comparisons to the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys, Glazer suggested the club can sustain global appeal regardless of on-field success.

Meanwhile, the club's football operations chiefs Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada have decided that if Michael Carrick is dismissed, United will pursue a permanent managerial appointment rather than another interim solution. The club has cycled through temporary bosses in recent years—Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick, and Carrick himself—and the hierarchy now favours a long-term approach to the next managerial decision. For now, Carrick retains their backing following United's 3-2 Champions League comeback against Roma.

Glazer's comments about commercial independence from trophies have drawn criticism from supporters, who intensified protests during the Roma match, releasing green and gold balloons and throwing tennis balls onto the pitch while chanting against the Glazers.
