There are very few reasons for Unai Emery to leave Aston Villa for Manchester United

Jonathan Wilson argues Emery is right to pursue a contract extension at Villa rather than take the Manchester United job, citing Villa's superior infrastructure and his autonomy there.

Unai Emery is in advanced talks to extend his Aston Villa contract through 2029, and Jonathan Wilson's analysis suggests he should stay. While Manchester United's historical prestige and resources remain alluring to any elite manager, the modern reality favours Villa. Wilson argues that in almost every operational facet—from infrastructure to personnel—Villa are better run than United. Emery has built a trusted structure at Villa with his preferred coaching staff, president of football operations Roberto Olabe, and director of football operations Damian Vidagany, people he has worked with before. He enjoys a degree of autonomy at Villa that would be difficult to replicate elsewhere. United's situation remains precarious despite a recent win over Roma; the club's deeper problems persist beyond managerial changes. Wilson notes the cautionary precedent of Ole Gunnar Solskjær, whose popular tenure ended with a sacking just a month after a comeback victory against a Serie A side. Villa, by contrast, continue building systematically under stable leadership.
