Liverpool deliver first Andoni Iraola statement as trio's transformations continue

Liverpool beat Brighton 2-0 at Anfield, with Ronald Araujo outstanding at right-back and Florian Wirtz controlling midfield in their fourth straight win.

Liverpool delivered an impressive 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield, a result that carries particular weight given Brighton's league-leading 23 goals and miserly defence before kick-off. The Seagulls had even beaten Arsenal 3-0 last month, making this hard-fought triumph a significant statement under Andoni Iraola.

Defensively, Liverpool were rock solid. Ronald Araujo was outstanding at right-back, making crucial challenges including a perfectly-timed sliding tackle in stoppage time and a full-blooded challenge on Malick Yalcouye that drew celebration from supporters. The Uruguay international, on loan from Barcelona, continues to impress and has sparked discussion about a permanent £47m move.

Florian Wirtz orchestrated Liverpool's attack in the first half, controlling tempo and creating chances for Cody Gakpo, Bradley Barcola and Alexander Isak, though his effort was credited as a Pascal Gross own goal. Wirtz was replaced by Trey Nyoni in the second half. The victory moves Liverpool to fourth place after Chelsea and Manchester City both lost over the weekend, extending their run to four straight wins in all competitions and a first Premier League home success in six months.
