Why Michael Carrick has arrived at Carrington amid Manchester United crisis talks

Carrick attended Carrington for U21s friendly while Berrada and Wilcox held crisis talks on his future following the 3-0 Bournemouth defeat.

Michael Carrick arrived at Manchester United's training ground on Monday afternoon to watch the Under-21s play a behind-closed-doors friendly against Hull City, as club chiefs Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox held crisis talks over his position.

The move comes after United's heavy 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday, which extended their winless run to eight games across all competitions. When asked if he expected to be sacked, Carrick said he was "not expecting anything in particular" and that he was "carrying on as normal". He accepted responsibility for results, stating: "I take responsibility. Of course, I take responsibility. I've said that, and I accept the responsibility."

Carrick saluted the Stretford End after the Bournemouth loss but clarified it was not a farewell. Eddie Howe, Unai Emery, Antonio Conte and Julian Nagelsmann have been mentioned as possible replacements, with Howe reportedly Wilcox's preferred option.
